What to Pack When Staying at a Vacation Rental Home

Staying at a short-term vacation rental is a great way to enjoy a comfortable, home-like experience while on vacation. However, unlike staying at a hotel where many amenities are provided, vacation rentals may require you to bring some essentials. To help you pack efficiently for your next vacation rental stay, we’ve put together a list of must-have items.

1. Toiletries

While some vacation rentals may provide basic toiletries like soap and shampoo, it’s always best to bring your own. Don't forget items like toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, and any other personal hygiene products you need.

2. Clothing

Pack enough clothes for the duration of your stay, including comfortable and weather-appropriate outfits. Check the weather forecast for your destination and pack accordingly. Remember to pack comfortable shoes for exploring the area.

3. Entertainment

Whether it's a book, tablet, or your favorite board games, bring along some entertainment for those moments when you're not out exploring. Consider packing a deck of cards or some outdoor games like frisbee or beach volleyball.

4. Electronics

Make sure to pack all the necessary chargers for your devices, such as smartphones, laptops, and cameras. If you're traveling internationally, don't forget to bring a power adapter.

5. Snacks

Stock up on some of your favorite snacks for those moments when you want a quick bite to eat in between meals. This is especially important if you have dietary restrictions or preferences.

6. First Aid Kit

It's always best to be prepared, so make sure to pack a small first-aid kit with items like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers.

7. Kitchen Essentials

If you plan on cooking meals at your vacation rental, check to see what kitchen appliances and cookware are provided by messaging your host. Consider bringing along any special utensils or ingredients you might need.

8. Pool and Beach Gear

If you're headed to a vacation rental near the beach, make sure to pack beach towels, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses, and consider bringing along a beach umbrella or tent for extra shade. For those lucky enough to be heading to a vacation rental with a pool, bring your own pool floaties or purchase some at your destination.

By packing these essentials, you'll be able to enjoy your short-term vacation rental to the fullest. Happy packing, and have a great trip!
